Installation.
Installation is very simple. Just download TurnOffScreen 1.1 and double click on it. Then, just follow on-screen instructions.
TurnOffScreen button.
When installation is complete you’ll find a button in your Windows quick launch bar.
Press this button to manually turn off your monitor. This is useful, for example, when you’re using a laptop that has no physical button to switch off the LCD screen, or to preserve the life of the physical button on a desktop monitor. You can switch the monitor back on pressing any key, or moving the mouse. You can use the link to TurnOffScreen on your desktop as well.
TurnOffScreen screensaver.
Installation sets up TurnOffScreen as the current active screensaver. This means that after a given period of time (1 minute by default) of PC being idle the monitor will be powered off. You can switch back on the monitor pressing any key, or moving the mouse. It works exactly as a screensaver and therefore:
- it works even if you have problems with Windows power management (i.e. Windows doesn’t power off monitor or monitor is suddenly powered on with apparently no reason)
- it won’t power off the screen when it is not supposed to (i.e. you’re watching a movie)
- you can change its settings from Control Panel -> Display -> Screen Saver. Here you can change the period of time after the monitor is turn off.

Registration.
TurnOffScreen is free, although the screensaver is limited to 2 minutes. After this period the monitor is powered on again. You can buy the full version of TurnOffScreen to remove this limitation. Once you have a valid serial number you can register the product from Programs -> TurnOffScreen -> Register TurnOffScreen to get the full unlimited program.
